(A) This policy applies to all safety-sensitive employees, volunteers and contractors, and other employees when they are on transit property or performing transit-related business. This policy applies to off-site lunch periods or breaks when the employee is scheduled to return to duty. A safety-sensitive function is any duty related to the safe operation of transportation services including the operation, dispatch, and maintenance or repair of a revenue service vehicle, whether or not the vehicle is in revenue service, and other employees whose job functions require they hold a commercial driver’s license or provide armed security.
(B) Listed below are the city positions determined to be safety-sensitive. The city may modify the list as required under federal, state or local regulation or as needed to ensure continued vitality of a comprehensive drug and alcohol testing program.
(1) A/C mechanic I, II, III;
(2) Carpenter I, II, III;
(3) Electrician I, II, III;
(4) Plumber I, II, III;
(5) Irrigation workers;
(6) Maintenance workers;
(7) Maintenance crew laborer;
(8) Communications technician;
(9) Recreation laborer;
(10) Recreation supervisor;
(11) Special events coordinator;
(12) Recreation laborer/heavy equipment;
(13) Painter;
(14) Aquatic specialist;
(15) Utility service worker I, II; and
(16) Van driver.
(C) Employees included in the above-listed labor classifications must participate in a drug and alcohol testing program as a condition of employment.
(D) This policy is effective upon receipt and continues in effect until superseded or canceled by competent authority.
