The fire protection district officer in command, or any firefighter designated by him or her, may exercise the powers and authority of a police officer in directing traffic at the scene of any fire or where its Fire Department has responded to an emergency call for so long as Fire Department equipment is on the scene in the absence of or in assisting the police.
