The City Clerk, before entering upon the duties of the office, shall execute a bond, with security, to be approved by the corporate authorities, payable to the city in the penal sum as may be required by the City Council, conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties of the office and the payment of all money received by the City Clerk, according to law, and also the ordinances of the city, and at the expiration of the City Clerk’s term of office, turning over to the City Clerk’s successor all books, papers and other property belonging to the city.
