§ 31.005 ARMED SERVICES.
   (A)   Any officer or employee of the city now holding or having at the time of his or her enlistment of induction held a position of the city who has enlisted or who hereafter enlists or who has been or may hereafter be ordered into active federal service or inducted into the land or naval forces of the United States or the State of Illinois, pursuant to act of Congress or the laws of the State of Illinois, shall be considered as being on furlough or leave of absence during his or her period of training and service and for an additional period of 40 days after he or she is honorably discharged or relieved from such training and service or for such other or additional period of time as may be provided by act of Congress, and unless incapacitated at the time of such discharge or relief from such service for the performance of the duties required by his or her employment, shall be restored without loss of seniority to the position previously held by him or her or to such other position as his or her status would have entitled him or her had he or she been continuously in active service of the city during the period of such leave of absence.
   (B)   The city shall during the period of such furlough or leave of absence occasioned by reason of the foregoing make payment to any pension or retirement fund created and in operation by force of law, legislative enactment or ordinance of the city, a sum equal to the deduction which would have been made from such employee’s or officer’s salary had he continued in the active service of the city. The city shall further make payment to the appropriate pension fund trustees of concurrent contributions or other credits from the municipal corporation from taxes levied or to be levied for such purpose as may be provided in the act creating such pension fund.
   (C)   It shall be the duty of all city officers to do all things necessary to be done and to perform all acts required to carry out and effectuate the purposes and intent of the foregoing divisions of this section, and, in the case of pension fund trustees, to treat the payments herein before first mentioned in the same manner and with the same effect as if such payments were deductions from the salary of such employee.
   (D)   Any person dishonorably discharged from the active federal service or from the land or naval forces of the United States or the State of Illinois shall forfeit any and all rights, privileges and immunities provided for in this section.
