The articles received or purchased by a licensee under the provisions of this article and secondhand dealers shall be numbered in the register required by Section 749.13. Such numbers shall run consecutively beginning with number one. At the time of the receipt thereof, each article shall be tagged with a number corresponding to the number of the article as described in the register. Such tag shall be kept upon such article as long as it remains upon the premises or in the possession and control of the dealer or pawnbroker.
