6-3-8: RABIES CONTROL:
   A.   Unvaccinated, Impounded Dogs: If a dog is impounded and found to be unvaccinated, the town enforcement agent is hereby authorized to cause such a dog to be vaccinated at the pound at a cost to be borne by the owner. The vaccination shall be administered by a veterinarian, who shall issue a certificate of vaccination. (1988 Code § 6-2-4)
   B.   Bites By Dogs And Cats:
      1.   Report Required: Whenever a dog or cat bites any person, the incident shall be reported to the town enforcement agent immediately by any person having direct knowledge.
      2.   Unlicensed, Unvaccinated Dogs And Unvaccinated Cats: Any unlicensed or unvaccinated dog or an unvaccinated cat that bites any person shall be quarantined and impounded or, at the request of and at the expense of the owner, placed in a veterinary hospital for a period of not less than ten (10) days. The owner of any dog or cat that has bitten a person may voluntarily deliver the dog or cat to the town enforcement agent at the pound; otherwise, there shall be an assessment against the owner if the town enforcement agent must pick up the dog or cat. If the dog or cat is impounded in the pound for observation as a result of a bite incident, there shall be a per day charge for board.
      3.   Licensed And Vaccinated Dogs And Vaccinated Cats: A dog properly licensed and vaccinated or a cat properly vaccinated pursuant to this chapter that bites any person, may be confined and quarantined at the home of the owner, or wherever the dog or cat is harbored and maintained, with the consent of and in a manner prescribed by the town enforcement agent.    C.   Bites By Caged Rodents: If the animal is a caged rodent, it may be confined and quarantined at the home of the owner, or where it is harbored or maintained, for the required period of time, with the consent of and in a manner prescribed by the town enforcement agent.
   D.   Bites By Wild Animals: Any wild animal which bites any person may be killed and submitted to the town enforcement agent or any town police officer for transmission to an appropriate laboratory. (1988 Code § 6-2-4)
