For the purpose of this article, the following definitions shall apply unless the context indicates or clearly requires a different meaning.
“ALARM SYSTEM.” Any mechanical, electrical, or electronic device which is designed or used for the detection of an unlawful action, or authorized entry into a building, a structure, or facility, and which emits a sound or transmits a signal or message when activated, but does not include a device that is installed in a motor vehicle or motor home.
“AUDIBLE ALARM.” An alarm system which generates an audible sound only, in or about the premises where it is located when it is activated.
“AUTOMATIC CALLING DEVICE.” Any device, or combination of devices, that will, upon activation, either mechanically, electronically, or by any other automatic means, initiate a telephonic or recorded message which is designed to be transmitted over regular telephone lines.
“CHIEF OF POLICE.” The chief executive officer or his designate of the Division of Police.
“FALSE DISPATCH.” The actuation of an alarm system resulting in a response by the Police Department where there has been no unauthorized entry or commission of an unlawful act on the premises.
“HOLD-UP ALARM SIGNAL.” A signal received from a monitored alarm system that is manually activated from the monitored premises.
“MONITORED ALARM SYSTEM.” An alarm system, excluding audible alarm, which when activated transmits a sound, signal, or message to a location where personnel are in attendance at all times and one (1) of whose functions it is to notify the Police Department of the alarm being activated.
“POLICE DEPARTMENT.” The Division of Police, Department of Public Safety, City of Paris.
