(a) A dog found running at large in a street, on a public place or on school grounds, or upon property belonging to a person other than its owner, and not under the control of its owner, shall be considered stray and running loose. Upon a properly registered complaint, such dog shall be subject to impoundment by the Police Department.
An attempt shall be made to return any dog so impounded to its rightful owner. If this cannot be done promptly, then such dog shall be impounded. After five days, it may be destroyed or otherwise disposed of. If the owner of an impounded dog claims such dog, the owner shall have to submit proper evidence of ownership and exhibit a current, duly issued license for such dog.
In addition to any other fine or penalty imposed under this Code for a violation of any of the provisions of this section, the Police Department is hereby authorized and directed to assess a charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per day for each day that a dog is impounded.
If a tranquilizer gun is used to apprehend a stray or vicious dog which cannot be captured by normal means, the Village and its agents shall not be responsible if the animal succumbs as a result of the use of the tranquilizer gun.
(b) No person shall permit any poultry, bovine, swine, sheep or goat to run at large in the Village.
