(a) Supervision of Department. The Commissioner of Public Health and Safety shall be in charge of the Department of Public Health and Safety, shall have supervision and direction over all officers and employees hereinafter assigned to the Department and shall enforce all ordinances pertaining to the protection of public health.
The Commissioner shall have charge of and supervision over the Health Department and the Police Department.
(b) Duties. The duties of the Commissioner include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
(1) Enforcement of ordinances. The Commissioner shall enforce or cause to be enforced the laws of the State and the ordinances of the Village relating to public health and safety.
(2) Ex-officio Health Officer. In the absence of a specific appointment to the office of Health Officer, the Commissioner shall have the powers and perform the duties of the Health Officer.
