(A) Any person who knowingly or wilfully causes, aids, or encourages any child to be or to become a delinquent child, or who knowingly or wilfully does acts which directly tend to render any child so delinquent is guilty of the class A misdemeanor of contributing to the delinquency of children.
(B) Instead of imposing the punishment the court may release the defendant from custody on probation for one year upon his or her entering into recognizance with or without surety in the sum as the court may direct.
