§ 35.20 ESTABLISHMENT; APPOINTMENT.
   (A)   There is established an office of part-time policeman. Upon recommendation of the chief of police, part-time policemen may be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council in such number as the mayor and city council may from time to time determine to be necessary. The number of hours a part-time officer may work within a calendar year is restricted. Prior to appointment, all proposed part-time police officers shall be fingerprinted, and their fingerprints shall be checked for any possible criminal record. No person shall be appointed as a part-time police officer if he or she has been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude. No one shall be appointed as a part-time police officer who fails to meet the following hiring standards:
      (1)   Be of good moral character, of temperate habits, of sound health, and physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties.
      (2)   Be at least 21 years of age.
      (3)   Pass a medical examination.
      (4)   Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
      (5)   Possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
      (6)   Have been honorably discharged if he or she has served in the U.S. military.
      (7)   Meet any other entrance requirements established from time to time by the police department.
   (B)   The appointment of any or all part-time police officers may be terminated in accordance with the provisions of the city's personnel manual.
