The board of trustees of the police pension fund shall be composed of five members, a majority of whom shall be residents of the city. Two members of the board shall be appointed by the mayor; one member of the board shall be elected by and from among the beneficiaries of the fund, if any; two members of the board shall be elected from the regular police force by the full-time members thereof, provided that neither of the members so elected need be residents of the city.
