The mayor, with the advice and consent of the city council, may appoint one or more deputy building commissioners and inspectors. They shall hold office for such periods as may be designated in their appointment. They shall receive compensation as may be established by the municipal authorities. They shall assist the building commissioner in the performance of his duties.
