(A) If an abandoned motor vehicle is not reclaimed within the time period provided in § 92.02 of this chapter, the Police Department or its agent may use that vehicle for Police Department purposes as set out in this section.
(B) The Police Department may use the vehicle as long as the Department considers it cost-effective. If the Police Department discontinues use of the vehicle, it shall auction the vehicle as provided in this chapter.
(C) An abandoned motor vehicle with a garage keeper’s lien cannot be used by the Police Department for its own purposes.
(D) This section does not apply to a police department located in a county with a population of 2,400,000 or more according to the most recent federal decennial census.
