§ 37.34  PUBLIC SERVICE WORKER I.
   (A)   Class title.  Public Service Worker I.
   (B)   Characteristics of class.
      (1)   Under close supervision, performs manual and semi-skilled work of routine and moderate difficulty in a variety of public service activities; and does related work as required.
      (2)   Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be performed.
   (C)   Examples of duties.  Loads/unloads trucks of debris, dirt, supplies, construction materials and equipment. Operates light truck. With a shovel, digs and scatters dirt, rocks and gravel in road construction, parks and sewer lines. Lays sewer pipe; repairs and cleans existing sanitary sewer lines, manholes, creek beds. Maintains grounds, including mowing grass, trimming shrubs, pruning trees with small power equipment and hand tools. Picks up paper and debris; rakes leaves; performs minor repairs on equipment. Patches holes; rakes asphalt; uses pick and shovel in preparing potholes for repair. Routinely uses gasoline-powered lawn mower. Cleans facilities, including mopping and waxing floors. Seasonally shovels snow and spreads salt on roadways and sidewalks. Assists in repairing and installing sewer pipes and lines, septic tanks and water lines. Assists in pumping overflow from basements, and in locating and raising manholes. Occasionally operates riding mower, uses jackhammer, chain saw and other small power equipment. Paints offices, speed bumps, signs, hydrants.
   (D)   Minimum qualifications.
      (1)   Training and experience.  Tenth grade education or vocational school, supplemented by one year of responsible related experience.
      (2)   Special necessary requirements.
         (a)   Valid Kentucky driver's license.
         (b)   May be subject to emergency callback.
         (c)   Ability to pass physical examination.
      (3)   Special knowledge, skills and abilities.  Working knowledge of the proper use of hand and power tools. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.  Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, official and the public.  Physical strength and ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.  Resourcefulness. Dependability. Alertness. Integrity.
