§ 37.31  POLICE RECRUIT.
   (A)   Class title.  Police Recruit.
   (B)   Characteristics of class.  Under close supervision and as a recruit, performs general duty police work in the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws as a recruit; and does related work as required.
   (C)   Examples of duties.  This position performs the duties of a regular, operating level police officer on an apprenticeship basis.
   (D)   Minimum qualifications.
      (1)   Training and experience.  Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED).
      (2)   Special necessary requirements.
         (a)   Successfully completion of required training.
         (b)   Valid Kentucky driver's license.
         (c)   Ability to pass a physical examination.
      (3)   Special knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to acquire knowledge of police methods, practices, and procedures with ability to apply this knowledge to specific situations.  Working knowledge of the geography of the area or ability to acquire the knowledge rapidly. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to remember names, faces, and details of incidents. Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action, with regard to surrounding hazards and circumstance Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written reports. Ability to develop skill in the use of firearms.  Physical strength and ability.  Ability to deal courteously but firmly with the general public.  Dependability.  Accuracy.  Sound judgment.  Integrity.  A Police Recruit will advance to the classification of Police Office upon completion of basic academy training for Police Officers.
