§ 37.30  AUTO AND DIESEL MECHANIC.
   (A)   Class title. Auto and Diesel Mechanic.
   (B)   Characteristics of class.  Under general supervision, performs mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of auto and diesel equipment; and does related work as required.
   (C)   Examples of duties. Performs general overhaul and repair work of all city owned automotive equipment, including police, sanitation, streets, Gas and Water Department automobiles, trucks, dozers and other specialized equipment with gasoline or diesel engines. Repairs transmissions, differential hydraulic systems, air and hydraulic brakes, air conditioning, electrical systems and other mechanical problems.  Performs welding tasks.  Maintains records of work performed and keeps parts in stock.
   (D)   Minimum qualifications.
      (1)   Training and experience.  Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED) or vocational school supplemented by one year of progressively responsible mechanic or mechanic's helper experience.
      (2)   Special necessary requirements.
         (a)   Possession of a valid driver's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
         (b)   Ability to pass a physical examination.
      (3)   Special knowledge, skills and abilities.  Considerable knowledge of the standard practices of equipment used in the automotive trade. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.  Considerable knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel engines, and of the mechanical repair methods applicable to heavy trucks and equipment. Skill in the use and care of hand and machine tools employed in automotive repair and adjustment work.  Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Accuracy. Alertness. Thoroughness. Sound judgment. Integrity.
