§ 37.18  ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF.
   (A)   Class title. Assistant Police Chief.
   (B)   Characteristics of class. Under general direction, assists the Chief of Police in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating activities of the Police Department; serves in the absence of the Chief; and does related work as required.
   (C)   Examples of duties. Supervises the maintenance and proper use of all police department equipment and personnel, including but not limited to maintenance, mileage, evidence, special details, employee evaluation, training, supervision. Prepares work schedules. Patrols when needed. Assists the Chief in assuring the proper operation of the Department in accordance with existing policies, rules and regulations, operating procedures as well as in the enforcement of federal and state laws and city ordinances. Assists the Chief in compiling reports and statistics and in all other matters as the Chief requires.
   (D)   Minimum qualifications.
      (1)   Training and experience. Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) supplemented by four years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
      (2)   Special necessary requirements.
         (a)   Successful completion of required training.
         (b)   Ability to pass a physical examination.
         (c)   Valid Kentucky driver's license.
      (3)   Special knowledge, skills and abilities.  Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances.  Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern police administration, organization and operation as applied to field patrol activity, traffic-control and safety, and criminal investigation. Skill in the use of firearms. Thorough knowledge of the use of all police records and their application to the solution of police problems.  Administrative, analytical and supervisory abilities.  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other officials and the general public. Firmness. Tact. Sound judgment. Integrity.
