A service connection for three-phase loads of five kilowatts or less shall be considered a special service connection if its cost is greater than the cost of a single-phase service connection, and the consumer shall pay the City an amount sufficient to cover such excess cost. Such payment shall not be refunded. The City will maintain such special service connection without making any separate charge for the same, except metered energy.
For an overhead service connection for three-phase loads in excess of five kilowatts and not exceeding twenty kilowatts demand a consumer may be required to pay to the City an amount sufficient to cover the installation cost beyond 1,000 feet of any additional primary or secondary phase wire which may be required. Such payments shall not be refunded.
In all cases, the consumer shall consult the City electric division concerning electrical supply to the following: (at least forty-eight hours prior notice required)
(a) Single phase motors, all of which should be connected to a minimum of 240 volts if possible.
(b) Electric welders.
(c) Electrical heating.
(d) Commercial cooking equipment.
(e) X-ray equipment.
(f) Commercial radio broadcasting equipment.
(g) Computers and data-processing equipment.
(h) Equipment which is vital to the health of consumers, such as respirators, etc.
(i) All services requiring voltage in excess of 240 volts.
Such services shall be subject to special negotiation with the City. The City shall not be required to furnish or continue service to radio installations or X-ray apparatus or other apparatus, the operation of which causes disturbances on the City's distribution supply circuits. For installations of central air conditioning and other large single-phase loads, the consumer shall be required to furnish capacitor start equipment as directed by the City.
