(a) Whenever there is a lack of work or lack of funds requiring a reduction in the number of officers or employees of the City in the classified service, the required reduction shall be made in such classes as the appointing authority shall designate. Employees shall be laid off in the inverse order of their relative length and quality of service, as determined by records of merit, efficiency, character, conduct and seniority. Within such affected classes all temporary employees shall be laid off before provisional employees, and the latter before probationary employees and the latter before permanent employees.
(b) The City shall give one work week's notice in writing in cases of layoffs and reductions. (Ord. 3479. Passed 8-7-18.)
