A person commits the offense of driving while revoked if he or she operates a motor vehicle on a highway when his or her license or driving privilege has been canceled, suspended, or revoked under the laws of this state and acts with criminal negligence with respect to knowledge of the fact that his or her driving privilege has been canceled, suspended, or revoked.
