§ 70.072  TRAFFIC CITATIONS.
   When a police officer halts a violator other than for the purpose of giving a warning, and does not take the person into custody under arrest, the police officer may issue to him or her a written ordinance citation containing a notice to answer to the charge against him or her in the appropriate authority by a specific time. The officer, upon receiving the written promise of the alleged violator to answer as specified in the citation, shall forward it in a timely manner through the appropriate channels.
