§ 98.03 MEMORIAL TREE PLANTING PROGRAM.
   (A)   The village shall cooperate with individuals or groups wishing to donate a tree to be planted on public lands, within the village, to memorialize a deceased person. The tree should provide a tribute to the departed and also a benefit to the village as a whole. The species should be compatible with the location and shall be of such size and type as to have a reasonable chance for survival. The planting site for such trees will be primarily in parks and tot lots, however, other publicly owned land may also provide a suitable site.
   (B)   The program shall consist of:
      (1)   The planting of a donated tree on village property.
      (2)   The inscription of the name, the year of birth and death of the deceased on the village maintained plaque.
      (3)   The platting of the location of the tree on the village maintained map, identifying the species of tree and the donor.
      (4)   A letter of appreciation being sent to the donor.
   (C)   The application shall be completed by the donor. A suitably sized tree of an appropriate species, and the location for the tree will be decided upon with the assistance and concurrence of the villages' memorial tree planting coordinator. Arrangements will be made between the donor and the village with regard to purchase and pick-up of the tree and donator's participation in planting, if so desired.
   (D)   The village shall be responsible for the planting and maintenance of the tree. If the tree is guaranteed by a nursery, that information shall be recorded. Should the tree die it will be the responsibility of the village to obtain a replacement through the guarantee or otherwise, at no additional cost to the donor.
