§ 91.52 ANIMAL BITES; PROCEDURE.
   Whenever any dog or cat bites or scratches a person, the owner of said dog or cat shall immediately notify the Chief of Police who shall order the animal held on the owner's premises or shall have it impounded for a period of ten days. The owner of said animal shall cause the animal to be examined by a licensed veterinarian on the first, fifth, and tenth day following the biting incident. If at the end of the ten-day period the veterinarian determines the animal has symptoms of rabies, it shall be destroyed and the head sent to the State Department of Health for examination for rabies. If at the end of ten days, a veterinarian is convinced that the animal is then free from rabies the animal shall be released from quarantine or from the pound as the case may be. Any expense incurred in handling of any animal under this section shall be borne by the owner or keeper.
