§ 35.002 DEFINITIONS.
   The terms below will be defined as follows for the purpose of these rules:
   ANNIVERSARY DATE. The first date of continuous full-time employment with the village.
   BOARD OF TRUSTEES. The Board of Trustees of the Village of Orland Hills.
   DAYS. Shall mean calendar days.
   DEPARTMENT HEAD. The officially appointed head of the Public Works, Police, Building, Recreation or other designated department. The DEPARTMENT HEAD supervises all employees of his/her department and reports directly to the Village Administrator. The DEPARTMENT HEAD may delegate some of his responsibilities under these rules to another member of the department.
   EXEMPT SUPERVISORY AND CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEES. The following employees are considered exempt supervisory and confidential employees under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act: Village Administrator, Chief of Police, Building Commissioner, Executive Secretary, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Director of Public Works, Police Administrator, Recreation Director and Public Works Director.
   FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE. An individual regularly employed and working a basic work week of at least 40 hours on average.
   HOURLY EMPLOYEE. Includes all employees who are paid based on an hourly rate of pay.
   OVERTIME. Overtime pay shall be based on the number of hours actually worked in a week, and shall be exclusive of sick days.
   PART-TIME EMPLOYEE. An individual regularly employed by the village and working a schedule of less than 40 hours per week, but not more than 1900 hours per year. Part-time employees shall not be eligible for paid sick leave, vacation leave, holidays or medical insurance, but may be eligible for overtime if they work in excess of 40 hours in a workweek, expense reimbursement and/or uniform allowances.
   PAY PERIOD. For all employees is a period of 14 days as determined by time schedules currently in use by the village. Such a period always commences on a Monday at 12:00 a.m. and terminates on a Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
   REGULAR EMPLOYEE. An individual regularly employed full-time or part-time with the village, with the exception of all elected officials, members of boards, committees, commissions, village-related volunteer organizations, and regular village consultants, such as the Village Engineer and Village Attorney.
   SALARIED EMPLOYEE. All employees who are paid according to an employee contract.
   TEMPORARY EMPLOYEE. An individual who is hired for a specified period of time, not to exceed a one-year period.
   UNEXCUSED ABSENCE. An unexcused absence occurs whenever an employee is not available to work on a regular workday, except for the approved use of vacation, holidays, personal days, compensatory time or sick days, or when the employee is on worker's compensation or long-term disability.
   VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR. The chief administrative officer of the village.
   WORK PERIOD. Shall be determined from time to time by the village.
