The purpose of this chapter is to coordinate the type, placement and scale of signs within the different land-use zones, to allow for the necessary communication of information, to encourage the innovative use of design, to promote both renovation and proper maintenance of signs, and to benefit the general public welfare through their regulation. It is the intent of these regulations to permit signs which assist the orderly, convenient use of land and to prohibit the use of signs which may be distracting, create visual clutter, pose a safety hazard, deter the esthetic quality of the community, or interfere with the proper functioning of land users or movement of the general public.
