737.01 DEFINITIONS.
   As used in this chapter:
   The following words and phrases shall have the meanings as set out herein:
   (a)    "Call box stand" means a place alongside a street or elsewhere, where Council has authorized a taxicab permit holder to install a telephone or call box for the taking of calls and the dispatching of taxicabs.
   (b)    "City" means the City of Oregon, Ohio.
   (c)    "Cruising" means driving a taxicab for hire on the streets, alleys or public places of the City in search of, or soliciting prospective passengers.
   (d)    "Driver's license" means the permission granted by the City or by a recognized municipality to a person to drive a taxicab upon the streets of the City or such municipality.
   (e)    "Holder" means a person to whom a permit has been issued pursuant to this chapter.
   (f)   "Open stand" means a public place alongside the curb of a street or elsewhere, which has been designated by the Mayor or his designee as reserved exclusively for the use of taxicabs.
   (g)    "Person" includes an individual, corporation or other legal entity, a partnership and any unincorporated association.
   (h)    "Rate card" means a card displayed in each taxicab which contains the rates of fare then in force.
   (i)    "Recognized municipality" means a municipality regulating the operation of taxicabs and licensing drivers thereof in a manner satisfactory to the City and includes the cities of Toledo, Maumee and Sylvania.
   (j)    "Taxicab" means a motor vehicle regularly engaged in the business of carrying passengers for hire, having a seating capacity of less than seven persons and not operated on a fixed route, and includes a "motor vehicle for hire" as defined in subsection (1) hereof.
   (k)    "Taximeter" means a meter instrument or device attached to a taxicab which measures mechanically the distance driven and the waiting time upon which the fare is based.
   (1)    "Motor vehicle for hire" includes any public vehicle other than funeral car and driverless motor vehicle for hire, that does seek its business on the public streets, or in quasi-public places, and which is driven and in charge of the owner or his employee, or a lessor. Public vehicles used for livery purposes are motor vehicles for hire.
