A septic tank shall be cleaned at intervals of not greater than three years. Any septic tank that discharges settleable solids shall be cleaned immediately upon the occurrence of such condition. Upon notice by the Building Commissioner of the existence of such condition, the owner or occupant of the premises shall cause the tank to be cleaned within thirty days after such notice, except that a waiver may be granted, on application to the Building Commissioner, to extend the cleaning period from three to six years when the dwelling is occupied by not more than two people, the septic tank capacity is at least 1,000 gallons and there is no food waste grinder discharging into the system.
