(a) Smoke detectors shall be installed and maintained, by the owners or their agents, in each dwelling unit of all existing and future multiple dwellings and in all tenant-occupied dwellings located in the City. The Fire Department must be consulted prior to such installation and shall direct the number of detectors required and their location. Smoke detectors shall be installed and maintained in all new dwelling units and shall be located as directed by the authority having jurisdiction and all applicable building codes. Compliance with all requirements and such direction is mandatory.
(b) Carbon monoxide detectors shall be installed and maintained in all new dwelling units and in all nondwelling structures heated by fossil fuel and shall be located as directed by the authority having jurisdiction and all applicable building codes.
(c) All smoke and carbon monoxide detectors required by subsections (a) and (b) hereof shall bear the label of a nationally recognized testing laboratory.
