(a) Members of the Fire Department shall be compensated as determined from time to time by Council, for a twenty-four hours on/forty-eight hours off work period , which twenty-four hours on duty shall commence at 7:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 a.m. the following day, with the forty- eight hours between such regular work days considered as off-duty time.

(b) (EDITOR’S NOTE: Subsection (b) hereof was repealed by implication by Ordinance 151-87, passed December 22, 1987. See subsection (a) hereof.)
(c) Any employee who is required to accept the responsibilities and carry out the duties of a position or rank above that which he or she normally holds, shall be paid at the rate for that position or rank while so acting, provided that there is no violation of the rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission in so doing. (d) Council hereby establishes the work period for City firefighters to be a fifteen-day work period in compliance with Section 7(k) of the Fair Labor Standards Act, retroactive to April 1, 1985. (Ord. 45-85. Passed 7-15-85.)
(e) Any firefighter called in for an emergency situation, whether or not an emergency exists, shall be compensated for a minimum of two hours for each occurrence.
