6.20.030: IMPOUNDMENT, DESCRIPTION, NOTICE:
   A.   The animal control officer, upon receiving any animal, shall make a complete registry, entering the type, breed, color, and sex of such animal; whether or not the animal is licensed; and the date of impoundment. If an animal is licensed, he shall enter the name and address of the owner and the number of the license tag.
   B.   It is the duty of the animal control officer to keep all animals impounded for a minimum of seventy two (72) hours unless reclaimed by the owner as described below. All inquiries concerning lost or impounded animals shall be directed to the animal control officer. If an impounded animal is licensed or if the owner of an impounded animal is known to the animal control officer, the animal control officer shall give notice to the owner, by mail or telephone or posting on the front door of the residence, that unless the animal is reclaimed as provided in this chapter, it will be disposed of. If any animal shall not have been redeemed within the expiration of seventy two (72) hours following the notice, it may be destroyed or otherwise humanely disposed of. Any unlicensed animal required by law to be licensed or whose owner cannot be located may be disposed of in a humane manner. Any animal that appears to be suffering from rabies, hydrophobia, mange or other infectious disease, or any animal that is severely injured, shall not be released but may be forthwith destroyed in a humane manner.
   C.   Any captured animal that is clearly feral may be forthwith destroyed in a humane manner.
   D.   The animal control officer or a designee shall keep complete and accurate records for the care, feeding, veterinary treatment, and disposition of all animals impounded at the shelter.
   E.   Owners of impounded animals may also be proceeded against for violation of any applicable section of this title. (Ord. 1877 § 2, 2006)
