6-1-4: ASSISTANCE TO OTHER COMMUNITIES:
   A.   Assistance Permitted: Approval is hereby given for service of members of the regular police department of the city as police officers of any other city, town or county in an emergency situation in the state not more than forty five (45) miles distant from the city when such service is requested by the mayor or chief of police of the city or town or sheriff of the county, in accordance with state law. (2015 Code § 13-304)
   B.   Requests: Requests for service under subsection A of this section shall be made by writing or by telephone or other means of communication to the chief of police of the city, who, if he determines that the request can be granted consistently with the continuance of the proper police protection to the inhabitants of the city, shall furnish the number of officers requested and arrange for their transportation to the requesting municipality or county.    C.   Costs: Any municipality or county requesting and receiving service by members of the police department of the city may reimburse the city for the cost of the transportation to and from such municipality or county of the officers so serving and the prorated cost of their salaries, insurance and other benefits attributable to their service in such municipality or county.
