Whenever a vacancy in the office of Mayor occurs during his or her term, the vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of the term at the next election of Aldermen and during the period from the time that the vacancy occurs and until a Mayor is elected, as provided in this chapter, and has qualified, the vacancy may be filled by the election of an Acting Mayor from the membership of the Council by the City Council.
