§ 90.059 CONCRETE DRIVES IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS.
   (A)   Purpose. The purpose of this section is to provide specifications for materials and construction of concrete drives in all residentially zoned districts.
   (B)   General specifications. Materials and construction for residential drives shall conform to § 406, Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Illinois Department of Transportation, most current edition,, or any successor edition thereto, except as stated in divisions (C) through (E) below.
   (C)   Materials.
      (1)   Aggregate. The stone aggregate shall conform to § 704 of the standard specifications, except as follows:
         (a)   The gradation of the stone shall be CA6 or CA7, that is “State Road Mix;”
         (b)   No pea gravel, chips or tunnel rock shall be allowed; and
         (c)   No slag shall be used; only limestone is permitted.
      (2)   Concrete. Concrete driveways shall be constructed with a minimum of six sacks of cement per cubic yard. The minimum compressive strength of 4,000 psi at 28 days, maximum size aggregate of one inch, air entrainment of 6% plus 1%, maximum slump of four inches, maximum water content including moisture in the aggregate of six gallons per sack of cement, and all concrete shall contain a water-reducing admixture with no reduction in cement content permitted.
   (D)   Thickness.
      (1)   Aggregate base. The aggregate base shall be a minimum of two inches thick.
      (2)   Concrete. The concrete for a driveway, other than the apron, shall be a minimum of four inches thick with reinforcement or five full inches thick without reinforcement. The apron shall consist of a full seven inches with no reinforcement.
   (E)   Forms. Side forms shall be of lumber of not less than two inches nominal thickness or steel of equal rigidity. The minimum depth of the side forms shall be equal to the driveway thickness. No two-inch by four-inch lumber forms shall be permitted. Forms shall be held securely in place by stakes or braces with the top edge true to line and grade.
   (F)   Expansion joints. Expansion joints of the thickness specified below shall consist of a premolded filler strip with the top strip placed one-fourth inch below the surface of the driveway. One-half inch thick expansion joints shall be provided at the junction of the driveway apron and the sidewalk and at the junction of the driveway apron and the curb.
   (G)   Backfill. After the concrete has been cured, forms shall be removed and the space near the edges of the driveway shall be backfilled to the required elevation and the material shall be compacted until firm and the surface evenly graded.
