§ 32.276 POWERS AND DUTIES.
   The Commission and consumer protection shall:
   (A)   Enforce all laws in relation to weights and measures and all laws in relation to consumer protection;
   (B)   Receive and investigate complaints from all persons affected by potential or actual violations of any of the provisions of this subchapter, or initiate its own investigation of frauds and unfair dealings against such persons;
   (C)   Issue subpoenas to compel the attendance of witnesses and the production of documents, papers, books, records and other evidence in any matter over which this subchapter applies; administer oaths or affirmations to any person whose testimony is required; interrogate witnesses; inspect premises; require written answers to questionnaires; and require periodic written reports and the filing of statements;
   (D)   Issue cease and desist orders with respect to consumer practices declared to be unlawful by the Commission;
   (E)   Report to the appropriate law enforcement officer any information concerning a violation of any consumer protection law, which reports shall be at the discretion of the Commission;
   (F)   Represent the interest of consumers before administrative and regulatory agencies and legislative groups;
   (G)   Assist, advise and cooperate with local, state and federal agencies and officials to protect and promote the interest of the consumers of the city;
   (H)   Assist, develop and conduct programs of consumer education and information through publications and other materials prepared for distribution to the consumers of the city;
   (I)   Undertake activities to encourage local business and industry to maintain high standards of honesty, fair business practices and public responsibility in the production, promotion and sale of consumer merchandise and services and in the extension of credit; and
   (J)   Exercise and perform such other functions, powers and duties as may be deemed necessary or appropriate to protect and promote the welfare of the consumers of the city.
