There is established the position of Deputy Chief. The Deputy Chief shall perform all duties delegated to him or her in the manner prescribed by law or ordinance, or by the rules and regulations of the Fire Department. In the absence of his or her superior officer, the Deputy Chief shall take command of companies, and the authority, powers, duties and responsibilities of such superior officer shall be vested in such Deputy Chief.
