§ 92.07 CRUELTY TO ANIMALS PROHIBITED.
   No person shall commit acts of cruelty to animals in the city, including but not limited to the following:
   (A)   Overloading, overdriving, overworking, beating, torturing, tormenting, or mutilating any animal or causing or knowingly allowing such act of cruelty;
   (B)   Killing or wounding or attempting to kill or wound any animal by the use of firearms, sling shot, bow and arrow, B-B gun, air rifle, stones or any other dangerous weapon; provided that a person’s defending himself or herself or another from attack by an animal, or a police officer’s use of a weapon to destroy an animal which is seriously injured, to avoid unnecessary suffering, or in self-defense or defense of others shall not be prohibited;
   (C)   Robbing or destroying the nest of any bird;
   (D)   Cruelly working any old, maimed, injured, sick or disabled animal or causing or knowingly allowing such act of cruelty;
   (E)   Failing to provide any animal in one's charge or custody with proper food, drink, shelter, air, sanitation or medical care;
   (F)   Abandoning any animal without making provision for its care and feeding;
   (G)   Using or keeping any animal in any way connected with the management or ownership of any place kept or used for the purpose of fighting or baiting any dogs, cocks, or other animals or permitting such a place to be kept or used;
   (H)   To leave any animal unattended in a motor vehicle or enclosed trailer when the outside temperature exceeds 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) or contain any animal in such manner that the animal does not have proper air circulation while confined in a motor vehicle, trailer, dog house, or any type of container or structure in which an animal may be confined;
   (I)   To strike any animal while operating a motor vehicle without stopping at once and rendering such assistance as may be possible, or reporting such injury to the animal owner or keeper, if known, or to the Police Department of the city;
   (J)   To give away, offer or use any live animal as a novelty or prize for or as an inducement to enter any contest, game, or as an inducement to enter any place of amusement or to enter any business agreement; or to sell, offer for sale, barter or display any living baby chicks, ducklings or other fowl or rabbits which have been dyed, colored or otherwise treated so as to give them an artificial color;
   (K)   Intentionally committing an act that causes a companion animal to suffer serious injury or death, however, not including a companion animal that is humanely euthanized by a licensed veterinarian through recognized methods approved by the Department of Agriculture unless otherwise prohibited by the Humane Care for Animals Act (ILCS Ch. 510, Act 70).
