(a) Individuals employed by the City Fire Department currently holding the position of specialist shall have their job title changed to Firefighter-Paramedic II. Individuals currently employed by the City Fire Department currently holding the position of life squad attendant shall have their job title changed to Firefighter Paramedic I.
(b) The position of Firefighter-Paramedic II shall be occupied by firefighters who have successfully completed the required training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Hospital as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) and possess and maintain a current certification from the State of Ohio Department of Education that the individual is certified to function as an EMT-P upon passage of this section. Vacancies in this position shall be filled by qualified Firefighter-Paramedic I personnel.
(c) The position of Firefighter-Paramedic I shall be occupied by firefighters who have successfully completed the required training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Hospital as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) and possess and maintain a current certification from the State of Ohio Department of Education that the individual is certified to function as an EMT-P. Requirements for EMT-P certification for Firefighter-Paramedic I shall be waived with the understanding that, at the first opportunity, the applicant shall successfully complete the certification. He shall enroll in a qualified school within one year after his appointment to the position or after passage of this section, whichever is applicable.
(d) Any personnel holding the position of Firefighter-Paramedic I or Firefighter Paramedic II who fails to maintain his certification as an EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic) shall, upon notification by the Chief of the Fire Department of his failure to meet the qualifications of such positions, be reduced to the rank and pay of firefighter, with the approval of the Norwood Civil Service Commission.
(e) The Clerk of Council shall forward a copy of this section to the Norwood Civil Service Commission to assure full compliance with the Civil Service laws of this City and the State of Ohio. (Ord. 23-1982. Passed 5-25-82.)
