1510.01 DEFINITIONS.
As used in this Chapter the following terms have the meanings indicated:
   (a)   "Exterior furnace" means any furnace, burning chamber, fire pit, heater or other device, contrivance, or apparatus, and any part thereof, which is specified by its manufacturer to be affixed, installed or situated only out-of-doors for the primary purpose of the combustion of any solid fuel from which heat or energy is derived and:
      (1)   Is intended to be directed by conduit or other mechanism into any interior space for the supply of heat or energy or to heat water for any swimming pool, or
      (2)    Is intended to heat air, water or other fluid which thereafter is to be directed by conduit or other mechanism into any interior space for the supply of heat or energy or to heat water for any swimming pool, including, but not limited to outdoor wood-fired furnaces, outdoor wood burning furnaces, outdoor wood-fired boilers, outdoor wood-fired hydronic heaters, outdoor corn burning furnaces and exterior solid fuel heating devices.
"Exterior furnace" also includes any contrivance, apparatus or part thereof, including a boiler, fire box, exchanger, grate, fuel gun, fuel nozzle, chimney, smoke pipe, exhaust conduit and like devices used for the burning of combustible solid fuels for the creation and conveyance of heat or energy from an exterior location to an interior location.
The term "exterior furnace" does not include exterior chimneys, stove pipes or similar devices that are an integral part of an interior furnace system, interior stove system, or fireplace that otherwise is in conformity to applicable local, state and federal law.
   (b)   "Approved exterior furnace" means an exterior furnace that is certified to meet the phase II particulate matter emission standard set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.E.P.A.) in effect as of the effective date of this Chapter. In the event the U.S.E.P.A shall, subsequent to the effective date of this Chapter, issue new or revised particulate matter emission standards, then "approved exterior furnace" means an exterior furnace that is certified to meet the particulate matter emission standard set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.E.P.A.) in effect as of the date of installation of the furnace. In order to qualify as an "approved exterior furnace", the certification of compliance with the applicable particulate matter emission standard must be prominently displayed upon the furnace by means of a label that is permanently affixed in a readily visible location. An exterior furnace that does not comply with this labeling requirement shall not qualify as an "approved exterior furnace".
   (c)   "Commercial exterior furnace" means an exterior furnace with a thermal output rating in excess of 350,000 BTU/hr.
