1511.01 STORAGE OF FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS.
   (a)   Approval of Storage Tanks. No storage tank for Class I, II or III flammable liquids shall be placed, installed, constructed or maintained within the City until an application for permission to do so, with plans and specifications showing full details and showing location, construction and connections, has been filed with and approved by the Fire Chief. All such tanks shall be equipped with a shutoff valve readily available and shall comply with all State requirements.
 
   (b)   Location in Sidewalk Area Prohibited. No storage tank for Class I, II or III flammable liquids shall be placed, constructed or maintained under a public sidewalk or in a sidewalk area.
 
   (c)   Tanks for Construction Work. Storage of Class I, II or III flammable liquids used as fuel in motor driven vehicles may be stored at the site of any construction project, provided that such storage shall not exceed 550 gallons at any one time, and that such storage shall be approved by the Fire Chief. Such tanks shall be removed within five days after completion of such construction.
 
   (d)   Underground Tanks. A flammable liquid storage tank may be located underground, outside of or under a building, if such installation shall be so located with respect to existing building foundations and supports that the loads carried by the latter cannot be transmitted to the tank. The distance from any part of a tank storing Class III flammable liquids to the nearest wall of any basement, pit, cellar or property line shall be not less than three feet. The distance from any part of a tank storing Class I or II flammable liquids to the nearest wall of any basement, pit or cellar shall be not less than three feet, and from any property line that may be built upon, not less than three feet.
 
   (e)   Class I and II Flammables. Class I and Class II flammable liquids shall be stored in closed containers or in storage tanks underground and shall comply with all State requirements.
