927.02 POLE SPECIFICATIONS; SPECIAL PERMIT.
Poles shall be of a height sufficient to allow spacing of conductors as herein required when used as joint poles. When used by one utility only, they shall be only high enough to allow the proper vertical spacing of the utility's wires and give clearance from the bottom wire to the ground of not less than sixteen feet at the lowest point of sag. They shall be set not less than five feet in the ground nor nearer than ten feet to a fire plug, and spaced at a distance apart of not over 140 feet, and not nearer the curb than six inches inside the curb to the face of the pole where pipe lines or other connections conflict with this spacing. A permit must be obtained from the Director of Public Service and Safety before setting closer to the curb, and consideration must be given to driveways and property lines. Poles must be shaved and painted, set in line parallel with the street and must be set straight, except where leaning is necessary to overcome strain. If stepped, poles may be stepped with wood blocks to a height of eight feet. Such blocks shall be set in the lead, and metal steps shall be set at right angles to the lead, the lowest step to be on the field side of the pole.
