§ 9. MAINTENANCE WORKER I.
   (A)   Code number. 1003.
   (B)   Class title. Maintenance Worker I.
   (C)   Characteristics of the class. Under immediate supervision, performs manual labor requiring little training; and does related work as required; this class may serve as a trainee position.
   (D)   Examples of duties. Cuts and trims grass in park and around municipal buildings; cuts weeds; paints fire hydrants; picks up rubbish and debris; trims around trees, tennis courts, and basketball courts; assists in street, sewer, and water construction and maintenance; performs custodial duties for city buildings and structures; cleans trucks and other equipment; uses pick and shovel when needed.
   (E)   Position qualifications.
      (1)   Training and experience. Completion of eighth grade; experience in manual labor may be substituted for the educational requirement.
      (2)   Special knowledge, skills, and abilities. Willingness to perform heavy, routine manual labor often under adverse weather and environmental conditions; ability to understand and follow oral instructions; must have stamina and excellent physical condition; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.
