(a) Before a new truss can be installed in the City, a test must be conducted. It must be tested under a load two times the live load and one-half times the total dead load. The total deflection must not exceed 1/360th of the design load for the length. Complete drawings must be submitted showing the type and size of the gusset plates and the species of lumber. This test must be witnessed by the Superintendent of Building and Zoning Inspection or his or her authorized agent. Drawings and calculations must be drawn by an engineer registered in the State.
(b) All trusses must be properly identified with the manufacturer’s name, the truss plate and the number signifying the total load.
(c) All trusses shipped into the City must be stamped on the bottom chord in the middle third of the truss.
(d) Trustees must not be cut, drilled or altered in any manner. Trusses that are used to hold any load other than that for which they were originally designed must be certified by a registered engineer registered in the State.
