1436.09 WATER SUPPLY; STANDPIPE PRESSURE.
   (a)   Standpipes shall be supplied under full pressure from an adequate water supply or the water supply shall be furnished automatically by the opening of a hose outlet or by the operation of suitably located thermostats, except as follows:
      (1)   In buildings having floor areas of less than 2,500 square feet in which fire- extinguishing equipment is furnished and placed in accordance with the requirements of the Fire Prevention Code;
      (2)   In sprinklered buildings in which one and one-half inch hose is connected to the sprinkler risers in each floor area;
      (3)   In buildings which, because of occupancy or type of construction, do not, in the opinion of the Fire Chief, require constant and automatic water supply.
      (4)   Nursing homes, rest homes, homes for the aged, mental nursing homes, convalescent homes, alcoholic nursing homes, boarding homes for handicapped or feebleminded children, and boarding homes for children, shall comply with Ohio Basic Building Code, Chapter 4101:2-9.
   (b)   The minimum supply for Class I and Class III service, as defined in N.F.P.A. Bulletin No. 14, shall be sufficient to provide 500 gallons per minute for a period of at least thirty minutes. Where more than one standpipe is required, the minimum supply shall be 500 gallons per minute for the first standpipe and 250 gallons per each additional standpipe, for a period of at least thirty minutes. The supply shall be sufficient to maintain a residual pressure of sixty-five pounds per square inch at the topmost outlet of each standpipe, including the roof outlet, with 500 gallons per minute flowing from the primary standpipe and 100 gallons per minute flowing from each additional standpipe up to maximum flow of 900 gallons per minute. Such test shall be performed in the presence of the Fire Chief and a written record of the results shall be filed with the Fire Chief’s office prior to occupancy of the building.
