1436.04 STANDPIPES REQUIRED.
   Buildings hereafter erected shall be equipped with standpipes and hoses as follows:
   (a)   Buildings less than fifty feet in height shall not be required to have standpipes unless required elsewhere in this Building and Housing Code or by the Ohio Building Code.
   (b)   Buildings fifty to seventy-five feet in height shall have standpipes not less than four inches in diameter.
   (c)   Buildings exceeding seventy-five feet in height shall have standpipes not less than six inches in diameter.
   (d)   All occupancies required by the Ohio Building Code to have standpipes shall have such standpipes.
   (e)   Where permitted by N.F.P.A. Bulletin No. 14, standpipes may be sized by hydraulic calculations of a registered professional engineer.
   (f)   Pressure maintenance pumps shall be provided in all required installations as defined in N.F.P.A. 20, paragraph 31e.
   (g)   A standpipe water supply lateral shall be provided with a slow opening and closing valve, as specified by the City Engineer, to prevent water hammer.
   (h)   All systems shall be equipped with a backflow prevention valve between the pump and the water main, when, by reason of occupancy, there is a potential for contamination of the potable water supply.
