7-5-1: DEFINITIONS:
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
CEMETERY:
The whole area set apart for the burial of the dead, and not merely the plots where the remains are deposited.
CEMETERY CUSTODIAN:
An official appointed by the Village Board of Trustees.
CREMAINS:
The ashes of a cremated body.
CREMATION:
The process whereby a body is reduced to its elements by fire.
CREMATION GARDEN:
A garden where ashes are buried in the urn and a single or double stone may be placed.
GRAVE:
An excavation in the earth for the burial of remains, including the burial place in a tomb or sepulcher.
GRAVESTONE:
A stone with an inscription erected near or laying over the grave.
INTERMENT:
The act of depositing the remains in the earth, tomb or burial vault.
LOT:
A part of the cemetery intended for burial and embraces more grounds than a single grave.
MAUSOLEUM:
A tomb built on a grand and magnificent scale.
MEMORIAL:
Anything intended to preserve the memory of a person, including a monument, which may be a stone or a building, that is either erected or maintained to preserve the memory of a person or persons.
PLOT:
Grave site.
URN:
A prefabricated container used for holding cremains.
UTICA OAK HILL CEMETERY:
Includes the entirety of the property.
VAULT:
A prefabricated container constructed of concrete used for protecting a casket. (Ord. 2022-36, 11-10-2022)
