A. Powers Generally: The chief of police shall, in the discharge of his duties, have the same powers and responsibilities as sheriffs and constables. The chief of police shall suppress riots, disturbances and breaches of the peace, and apprehend any person committing any offense against the laws of the state or the ordinances of the city. He shall at all times diligently and faithfully discharge his duties and enforce all ordinances and regulations of the city for the preservation of peace, good order and the protection of the rights and property of all persons.
B. Departmental Supervision: The chief of police shall organize, supervise and be responsible for all activities of the police department and shall define and assign the duties of the different police officers.
C. Attend Meetings; Execute Orders: The chief of police shall, when required, attend meetings of the city council to consult with and advise them on matters of public safety. He shall execute all lawful orders of the mayor and city council and see that all orders and judgments of the justice court judge are carried into effect. (1989 Code § 13-10-1-02)
