§ 154.061 EXEMPTIONS FROM PERMIT REQUIREMENT.
   The following signs are exempt from application for a permit under this chapter:
   (A)   Any flag, badge, insignia or similar device of any governmental agency or civic, charitable, religious, patriotic, political, fraternal or similar non-profit organization may be displayed when it is located on its own premises or displayed along a route of any parade or in sockets along any street during a fundraising drive;
   (B)   Any sign required by regulation or statute of the federal, state or city government or a department, board or commission thereof may be displayed;
   (C)   Not more than 3 directional signs pertaining to the same activity and facing the same direction of travel may be erected along a single route approaching the activity:
      (1)   Maximum size 6 square feet in area or, if in combination with others on 1 structure, a total combined area of 150 square feet.
      (2)   No such sign or combination of signs may exceed 20 feet in length or height.
      (3)   Outside of the right-of-way line and within ½ mile of the intersection leading to the activity.
   (D)   Real estate signs may be displayed as follows:
      (1)   Residential real estate signs may be displayed in accordance herewith.
      (2)   A sign may be erected for the advertising of the prospective sale or rental of non-residential property on which it is maintained when such sign conforms hereto.
   (E)   A sign advertising individual rooms for rent within a roominghouse may be displayed if it does not exceed 2 square feet of display surface and is not closer than 10 feet to any property line and 25 feet to any street intersection;
   (F)   A wall sign on a residence building may be displayed stating the name and profession or occupation of the occupant therein, provided the surface area does not exceed 2 square feet;
   (G)   Two temporary construction signs that advertise the proposed new use of the premises or are necessary for safety may be placed on the premises or on a temporary protective fence around a building being constructed, repaired, altered or demolished, provided that the area of each sign does not exceed 32 square feet.
   (H)   Temporary signs attached to a door or window announcing special sales and features may be displayed for a period of 2 weeks in advance and during such special sales and features;
   (I)   Any sign located inside of a building may be displayed even though it is visible out-of-doors, and those signs that advertise temporary uses within residential districts, such as rummage sales and garage sales, may be displayed;
   (J)   Construction signs, political campaign signs and street banners and pennants may be displayed in accordance herewith; and
   (K)   Banners, as per Note 16(d).
   (L)   Signs erected on behalf of any government, nonprofit agency or service organization, for the purpose of announcing its sponsors or special events when located on its own premises. All such signs must meet the regulations of the specific types of signs for area and height but may not be a sign prohibited by § 154.062.
