(A) The Mayor and Village Council will approve and appoint the Village Police Chief and establish salary and duties for this position.
(B) The Chief of Police, along with the Mayor, will establish the number of hours and time the Police Chief and police officers are scheduled.
(C) The Chief of Police or his or her designee shall be the commanding officer and, with the approval of the Mayor, have control over assignments, schedules, and training.
(D) The primary responsibilities of the Village Police Department will be to preserve the peace, protect life and property, and enforce the laws of the state and the ordinances of the village. Officers shall only act in such capacity while on active duty and shall obey the chain of command of the Police Department.
(E) The Chief of Police, under the direction of the Mayor, shall prescribe the rules and regulations for the administration, conduct, and control of the Police Unit.
(F) The Chief of Police shall determine what type of uniform or part thereof shall be worn by the members of the Police Unit.
(G) The village shall provide appropriate police gear, e.g., bullet proof vests (worn at all times while on duty) and other gear as prescribed by the Chief of Police. The Police Chief shall require and regulate firearms required by personnel in the performance of their duties.
