6-2-2: AUTHORITY TO REGULATE AND CONTROL TRAFFIC:
   A.   City Council: Except as otherwise provided, the city council shall regulate, control and approve all matters pertaining to vehicular traffic within the city.
   B.   Police Department:
      1.   The chief of police is empowered to make and enforce temporary regulations to cover emergencies or special conditions in connection with vehicular traffic. (Ord. O-15A-90, 3-19-1990; amd. Ord. O-30-93, 10-4-1993; Ord. O-06-2014, 3-3-2014)
      2.   The officers of the police department or such officers as are assigned by the chief of police shall enforce the traffic laws of this city and the state vehicle laws applicable to street traffic in the city.
      3.   Officers of the police department or such officers as are assigned by the chief of police are hereby authorized to direct all traffic by voice, hand or signal in conformance with traffic laws; provided, that in the event of a fire or other emergency or to expedite traffic or to safeguard pedestrians, officers of the police department may direct traffic as conditions may require notwithstanding the provisions of the traffic laws.
   C.   Fire Department: Officers of the fire department, when at the scene of a fire, may direct or assist the police in directing traffic thereat or in the immediate vicinity. (1976 Code § 27-1-2; amd. Ord. O-30-93, 10-4-1993; Ord. O-06-2014, 3-3-2014)
